Here at YSTR, one of our goals is to reduce fashion waste. Our pieces are cut-to-order to make sure we do not overproduce items. We also help reduce waste by shipping all our items in super cool biodegradable bags (check ’em out, you know you want to). Reducing fashion waste is a huge challenge and we hope that by joining this movement we can have a larger impact on the environment. We hope to reduce waste in our everyday lives. And so, without further ado, we bring to you our tips for a zero waste life!
But wait, what is zero waste?! Zero waste is a philosophy that encourages the redesign of resource life cycles so that all products are reused. No trash is sent to landfills or incinerators. Pretty cool huh?!
Follow our tips for a Zero Waste life!
1. Evaluate your lifestyle
Look at your life and really think about how much garbage you create in a week? Do you need to use all of those paper towels? How about using cling wrap or aluminum foil instead of reusable containers? Do you carry a reusable water bottle with you? Feeling guilty? It’s okay. We’ve made the same mistakes, but as they say, admitting your problem is the first step to recovery.
2. Start your Transition
Pick the easiest the easiest. Ditch your aluminum foil and head to the store to grab some reusable containers and a water bottle!
3. Invest in durable items
Whether it’s fashion, towels, glassware, it may be worth it to make the investment in long term items. Spending some extra bucks now can really pay off later. Check out our Foundation pieces! We’ve had them since our very first run. These pieces are designed to become classics in your staple closet.
4. Become a more conscious consumer
The more you think about what you buy the easier it can be to truly change. Check out our conscious consumption blog post to read even more tips!
Chances are, you probably already know your flaws when it comes to waste, and it just takes a push in the right direction to get you going! So, consider this your push. And as always, we’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.
